This breathtaking 90-minute Southern Ocean Adventure tour cruises between the mainland, islands & coastline of Encounter Bay, affording spectacular views of both the Victor shoreline & rocky granite islands. Many visitors to Victor Harbor never venture past Petrel Cove on the western side of the Bluff, but this is where passengers on The Big Duck are in for a real treat! Colonies of seals & sea lions can be found basking on the rocks and swimming in the shallows, with pods of Common & Bottlenose dolphins often spotted playing or/ feeding. The Big Duck heads past the darkly spectacular cliffs of Kings Beach & Waitpinga before returning to Encounter Bay Boat Ramp.

During winter Southern Right  & Humpback Whales migrate from Antarctic waters to the relative warmer ocean around Australia to feed,mate & give calve. The Big Duck is a licensed whale watching vessel and it is a privilege to enter the Southern Right Whale breeding sanctuary of Encounter Bay and to view these majestic animals from the waterline.The number of whales seen near Victor Harbor is highly variable year-to year. Southern Right Whales are much larger and less active (above the waterline) than Humpback Whales commonly seen on the East Coast of Australia. For this reason, whale sightings cannot be guaranteed. We also adhere to the minimum approach distance of 300 metres. So June/July through to September each year we aim to search for whales using known location sightings & our tour itinerary will be dependant on recently logged Whale sightings, should whales be not known to be in the area the cruise will revert to our usual Southern Ocean Adventure Tour.
